Anker Recalls Select Power Banks Over Battery Cell Issue

Anker issued a voluntary recall on several GaN power bank SKUs - how to check your serial number and what to buy instead.

Anker power bank recall

Anker issued a voluntary US recall for select GaN power bank models after identifying a battery cell defect that can cause overheating in rare cases. The affected units include batches of the popular 733 GaNPrime hybrid charger and related SKUs sold in 2024–2025.

If you own an Anker pack - especially one that lives in a hot car or stuffed pocket - stop using it until you verify serial numbers.

Affected models (check your label)

Anker’s recall covers specific manufacturing lots, not every unit sold. Commonly flagged families include:

  • Anker 733 Power Bank (GaNPrime PowerCore 65W) - model A1651
  • Anker PowerCore III 10K Wireless - select lots
  • Anker 535 Power Bank (PowerCore 20K) - select lots

The exact list evolves as Anker updates support pages. Do not rely on model name alone - use the serial lookup tool on Anker’s recall portal.

How to check your unit

  1. Find the serial number on the back label or packaging.
  2. Visit Anker Support → Power Bank Recall and enter the serial.
  3. If flagged, Anker provides prepaid return label and full refund or replacement - no purchase receipt required on most US registrations.

Processing times run 2–4 weeks during high-volume recall windows.

What to do while you wait

  • Stop charging affected packs overnight or unattended.
  • Do not gate-check lithium batteries - carry-on only when traveling with any power bank.
  • Temporary replacement: our budget pick list includes Baseus 20,000mAh as a stopgap - see Best budget power banks.

Are new Anker units safe?

Retail inventory after the recall cutoff uses revised cells. Buying new from Amazon or Anker.com post-announcement is generally fine - still register the serial for warranty.

Why this matters for budget buyers

Anker dominates sub-$50 charging because reliability used to be the brand promise. Recalls happen across the industry, but lithium thermal runaway is not theoretical - verify your serial even if the pack “works fine.”

We will update this post when Anker closes the recall window or expands affected lots.
